# Nutanix AHV

Use Nutanix AHV with YugabyteDB and YugabyteDB Anywhere

[Nutanix AHV](https://www.nutanix.com/products/ahv "Nutanix AHV") is a modern and secure virtualization platform that powers VMs and containers for applications and cloud-native workloads on-premises and in public clouds.

Nutanix AHV is [fully compatible](https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/compatibility-interoperability-matrix/software?partnerName=Yugabyte&solutionType=all&componentVersion=all&hypervisor=all&validationType=all "fully compatible") with YugabyteDB and YugabyteDB Anywhere:

- Deploy YugabyteDB Anywhere on a Nutanix VM.
- Use YugabyteDB Anywhere to deploy on-premises universes on Nutanix VMs.

## Deploy YugabyteDB Anywhere and on-premises universes

The following steps describe how to deploy YugabyteDB Anywhere and YugabyteDB using Nutanix AHV VMs:

1. Choose an [operating system](/stable/reference/configuration/operating-systems/ "operating system") for deploying YugabyteDB.
2. [Create AHV VMs](https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Prism-Central-Guide-vpc_2023_4%3Amul-vm-create-acropolis-pc-t.html "Create AHV VMs") on Nutanix Prism with Network Interface Controller (NIC).
3. [Create, add, and mount storage volumes](https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/solutions/details?targetId=RA-2107-SAP-High-Availability-Using-Nutanix-Volumes%3Aset-up-disks-using-nutanix-volumes-for-os-clustering.html "Create, add, and mount storage volumes") on the AHV VMs.
4. [Create and attach volume groups](https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/solutions/details?targetId=RA-2012-Informatica-PowerCenter-Grid%3Anutanix-volume-groups.html "Create and attach volume groups") to the AHV VMs.
5. Install YugabyteDB Anywhere using [YBA Installer](/stable/yugabyte-platform/install-yugabyte-platform/install-software/installer/ "YBA Installer").
6. Create additional [AHV VMs](https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Prism-Central-Guide-vpc_2023_4%3Amul-vm-create-acropolis-pc-t.html "AHV VMs") to act as on-premises database nodes.
7. [Provision the VMs as on-premises](/stable/yugabyte-platform/prepare/server-nodes-software/software-on-prem/ "Provision the VMs as on-premises") database nodes.
8. Create an [on-premises provider](/stable/yugabyte-platform/configure-yugabyte-platform/on-premises/ "on-premises provider") and add the nodes.
9. Create an [on-premises universe](/stable/yugabyte-platform/create-deployments/ "on-premises universe").

Tip

For high availability, create an [affinity rule](https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/details?targetId=Prism-Central-Guide-vpc_2023_4%3Amul-affinity-policies-pc-c.html "affinity rule") on the Prism side that hosts AHV nodes (database nodes) on separate controller VMs.
